Consultation on proposed Victorian AOD Treatment Principles... Your views requested

 Dear Colleagues,

The Mental Health, Drugs and Regions Division within the Victorian Department of Health has developed a consultation paper on AOD treatment principles. The purpose of this document is to present an overview of various principles and to seek feedback on how these might inform the development of a set of AOD treatment principles that are specific to the Victorian system.

The principles will sit within a new framework for quality and safety developed as part of broader treatment reform. This framework will set out the key quality requirements of the funded service sector and will inform the development of new performance monitoring systems.

The consultation paper presents a set of proposed AOD treatment principles which include a brief description of each and a number of key concepts listed to reflect the intent of each principle. The proposed principles, key concepts and terminology/language used have been developed by the Department of Health, as have the questions to be used throughout this phase of the consultation.

VAADA has been tasked with seeking feedback from the sector on the set of principles and their key concepts by COB Friday 5th October 2012. We will consolidate the feedback provided through this electronic consultation and this will be utilised to inform a face to face consultation that we will facilitate towards the end of October.

We will collate all feedback and provide a written response to DH in November. They will then develop a set of draft AOD treatment principles. VAADA will advocate that the devised principles be communicated to the sector for further input.

Note that APSU, HRV and ANEX will undertake consultation with their respective stakeholders.
