Posted to ENEWS for Naomi Rottem on behalf of the Bouverie Centtr

Dear AOD and PDRSS staff,

We are pleased to inform you of some upcoming training available to workers employed in the Alcohol and Other Drugs and Psychiatric Disability Rehabilitation and Support sectors.  The Bouverie Centre has received funding from The Department of Health to provide limited free places in the Clinical Supervision Training for workers employed in these sectors.

Course Information:
This six-day training course is aimed at workers who are already providing supervision, or are soon to commence as a supervisor.  The training incorporates a mixture of theory and practice in supervision. It covers topics including the history of supervision, supervision models, contracting, feedback, legal issues and ethics, diversity, and action methods, amongst others. The training is run over a number of weeks, and incorporates reading and homework tasks between sessions.  Participants who have completed training will also be invited to attend a follow up session which aims to assist workers to integrate their learning via consultation with experienced supervisors/trainers.

At the end of the six days, it is anticipated that participants will be able to:
  • understand a range of supervision modes, methods and models, and begin to identify their own supervision practice model
  • identify the roles and tasks within supervision, and factors which enhance the process and ensure professionalism
  • develop ways of giving and eliciting feedback in supervision
  • be aware of and work with issues such as culture, power, class, age and gender in supervision
  • consider the organisational context of supervision
  • extend their repertoire of ‘use of self’ within supervision
  • develop an understanding of compassion satisfaction and fatigue, and develop a self-care plan.
Course Dates:
