As a part of Outreach Services,Windana’s AOD Support Services is a supported accommodation community based program for adults and families whose lives have been affected by alcohol and drug use. The program aims to provide support to clients who have undergone a drug withdrawal program or who require assistance in addressing drug and alcohol related issues and who reside within our short term transitional accommodation. During the first five weeks of the program, there are group activities each day and these are a compulsory part of the program.
 
Residents in AOD Support Services can maintain their existing commitments in the broader community such as employment, education or relationships with their children. The program is open to people over the age of 21, including women (or men) with children and families.
 
The Support Worker will be required to:
  • Negotiate an Individual Treatment Plan with each person participating in the program.
  • Assist the client to create new networks to support employment, education, training, recreation, housing, mental health, personal and social needs.
  • Support people with practical assistance to enhance each person’s quality of life through skill acquisition, counselling and relapse prevention.
  • Provide support to the Windana Integration house in Mentone.
 
The successful applicant will become part of a dedicated team empowering participants to develop the skills necessary to live fulfilling lives within the community. Qualifications and experience in AOD, case management and working with children/families is essential. Facilitation and promotion of regular ‘living skills’ groups will be a part of the role. 

The position is a full-time role paid under the Social Community Home care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SACS Award rates) at Class 2, levels 1 – 3 $23.63 to $25.01 per hour (dependant on experience and qualifications), plus 9% super, plus company car valued at approx. $6000 per annum which equates to up to $60,000 annual package at the top rate. In addition, optional salary packaging will add approximately 10% value to this package.

Windana is looking for an experienced Family Services outreach case worker who is willing to work in a small team that are dedicated;
 
  • To strengthen family functioning thus providing a safe environment for the children
  • To assist the children in key life areas such as education, emotional, physical and behavioural development, health, connectedness and changing risk taking behaviour.
  • To ensure the families are connected to a range of supports within the community both formal and informal.
  • To assist to reduce the dependency on alcohol or other drugs within a harm minimisation framework.
  • To strengthen the capacity of Windana programs to respond effectively to the needs of families.
 
The program is without regional or time limitations and clients can continue to address their substance use issues. The program also works with families where the primary carer is seeking to re-establish caring responsibilities. All clients within the program are voluntary clients.
 
The successful candidate will have the following key competencies:
  • Proven experience working with families in an outreach capacity
  • Experience in facilitating psycho-educational and therapeutic groups
  • Ability to work within a team environment and autonomously
  • A demonstrated knowledge of problematic alcohol and other drug use and experience in working in the alcohol and drug field or related fields
  • Experience working with people with mental health issues
  •  Awareness of local community agencies and networks likely to be of value to clients.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills.
  •  A proven capacity to work with a variety of community agencies and develop effective working relationships.
  •  Family mediation training would be desirable
  • (Minimum) intermediate level computer skills in MS Office 2007 and internet navigation.
  • Excellent attitude: collaborative and collegiate
