Posted to ENEWS for Kate Pensa on behal of arbias

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to advise that arbias has been successful in acquiring 18 new single apartments in partnership with Yarra Community Housing.

Nominations are now open for people with an Acquired Brain Injury who are assessed as being suitable for this accommodation.

Locations & model of support
Wellington Street, Collingwood
arbias have 10 nomination rights at this property for 7 single dwellings and 3 single dwellings with disability access. In total there are 86 units within the development incorporating families, low income earners and people living on pensions.

The Wellington Street complex is located near to Gertrude Street and Smith Street, on the cusp of Fitzroy. The development is closely located near to the Neighbourhood Justice Centre, public transport and walking distance to the CBD.

Flockhart Street, Abbotsford
arbias have 8 nomination rights at this property, all single dwelling units. In total there are 54 units within the development.

Flockhart Street is in close proximity to the Victoria Gardens Shopping Complex, Yarra Bend Park and is easily accessible to the Victoria Street Tram.

Based on the existing Common Ground model of Supportive Housing, there will be an office on the ground floor of the Wellington Street complex where multidisciplinary staffing teams from various organisations, including arbias, will co-locate with the intention of providing collaborative and consultative supports for residents based at both locations. The Wellington Street complex will provide satellite support for the Flockhart Street residents.

Both locations have secure access 24 hours a day and access to 24 hour on call support in an emergency.

All apartments are supplied with basic furnishings – a bed, dining table and white goods. Residents can access a communal laundry on each level of the building.

The criteria for nomination
All nominated residents are required to satisfy the following criteria;
1.      Have a diagnosed ABI (primary disability)
2.      Are eligible for Segment 1 public housing and would be happy to forfeit any current OoH application in place of a successful nomination for a YCH property
3.      Are currently supported by an ISP or similar funding stream or are a priority for resource allocation within ISP allocations.
4.      Would benefit from the proposed support model in maintaining stable accommodation which allows the person to maintain a high level of independence within minimal formal supports
5.      Will satisfy Yarra Community Housing’s selection criteria

How to nominate
arbias required nominations to be allocated by Mid-May 2011, with a view to residents signing tenancy agreements within this week. Referrals & nominations for tenancy will be accepted at anytime from today onwards.
