the Illicit use of prescribed pain relief
A professional’s panel discussion and q&A
8th of December
The Multicultural hub
506 elizabeth street
The illicit use of prescribed opioid pain relievers poses considerable challenges to the Health and AOD sectors and Law Enforcement in how to better monitor prescription and pharmacy dispense, provide appropriate pain relief and drug treatment and deter people from engaging in illegal activity.
This free event for health and welfare professionals seeks to raise awareness of the issue and features an expert panel that will present on the issue and its multiple layers and discuss their own experiences. Those in attendance will be encouraged to express their own first-hand experiences of working with people using illicit painkiller medication in the second half of the Forum, which will take on a Q&A format.
Our expert panelists are:
Dr Michael McDonough
Chief Advisor on Addiction Medicine, Department of Health and DASWest
Community Pharmacist and member of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia
Pharmacotherapy Advocacy Mediation Support (PAMS) Service Coordinator
Harm Reduction Victoria
Subsequent speakers to be announced closer to the date.
This event is brought to you by the Inner West Drug and Health Forum, a Forum for professionals and organisations providing care to those with complex care needs
and, more specifically, drug and alcohol users, in the western region of Melbourne.
The IWDHF is funded by the Department of Health and delivered by Youth Projects.
